770 Mandolin perfume box / Scatola per profumo a mandolino

Silver and enamel mandolin of Viennese manufacture (probably by Simon Grenew); the exterior is decorated with guilloché enamel musical scenes, while the enamelled interior contains a “pastille” in gold engraved with a sacred subject, St. George fighting the dragon. This iconography and the “box” shape make us think of the use of a solid essence, and therefore a mixed function between aesthetics and treatments.  Austria, 1850 ca   2 cm diam

Mandolino in argento e smalto di manifattura viennese (probabilmente di Simon Grenew);  l'esterno è decorato con scene musicali a smalto guilloché, mentre l'interno smaltato contiene una “pastiglia” in oro incisa con un soggetto sacro, San Giorgio che combatte il drago. Questa iconografia e la forma della "scatola" ci fanno pensare all'uso di un'essenza solida, e quindi a una funzione mista tra estetica e medicale.   Austria, 1850 c.    2 cm diam.
