681 Corozo coquilla nut scent bottle with silver cap featuring a scene from Iliade: Achilles swears revenge on the body of his friend Patroclus, on the back a butterfly flying on a bunch of flowers, symbol of rebirthing; silver screw cap.  see Iliad -  book 18 line 335   "But now, Patroclus, seeing I shall after thee pass beneath the earth, I will not give thee burial till I have brought hither the armour and the head of Hector, [335] the slayer of thee, the great-souled; and of twelve glorious sons of the Trojans will I cut the throats before thy pyre in my wrath at thy slaying"              France,  1850 ca   6,5 cm

772 Carved nut of corozo scent bottle featuring a basket of flowers on the front and a quiver crossed with torches on the back; the cap is sourmonted by a little angel showing  a scroll with ten lines (Ten Commandments?); the right hand seems to be in a blessing position.      France,  1800 ca 3 cm diam

772 Flacone intagliato in noce coquilla di Corozo  con un cesto di fiori sul davanti e una faretra incrociata con torce sul retro; il tappo è costituito da un angioletto che mostra un cartiglio con dieci righe (Dieci Comandamenti?); la mano destra sembra essere in una posizione di benedizione.                      Francia, 1800 c.  3 cm diam.

Coconut as the corozo was worked by sailors or by convicts: the latter worked to pass the time but mainly to get some money to improve their lives while sailors worked these natural materials during their long journeys. 

Le noci come il corozo venivano lavorate da marinai o da carcerati: questi ultimi lavoravano per passare il tempo, ma soprattutto per procurarsi dei soldi per migliorare la propria vita mentre i marinai lavoravano questi materiali naturali durante i loro lunghi viaggi.
