Throwaway scent bottles made of glass usually clear and decorated with handpainted gilt and enamel; the most common decoration was alternating gilt cross-hatching and simple gilt striped oval shapes called "thumbprints", sometimes molded or carved into the glass; also called "English lavenders"; difficult to date.
