23 Sperm whale tooth scent bottle/ Flacone in dente di capodoglio

Unique sperm whale tooth scent bottle made on board of a ship: on one side bears the inscription Whaleship "Hero" in a chart under  a detailed drawn of a sailer; on the other side the portrait of a young lady in her gown and bonnet, surrounded by an oval wreath. The whaling ship HERO was active in Nantucket in the 1840s according to the American Naval Registers.  USA 1840 ca  5,5 cm 

Flacone in dente di capodoglio realizzata a bordo di una nave: su un lato reca la scritta Whaleship "Hero" in un cartiglio  sotto a un dettagliato disegno di una veliero; sull'altro c'è il ritratto di una giovane donna in abito e cuffia, circondata da una ghirlanda ovale. La baleniera HERO era attiva a Nantucket negli anni 40 dell'800,       secondo i Registri Navali Americani.                                  Stati Uniti d'America 1840 c.  5,5 cm
